Super Animal Royale is a top-down multiplayer survival shooter for up to 64 adorably murderous Super Animals. Select your favorite from a menu of foxes, pandas, kitty cats, and other bloodthirsty beasts. Then, parachute into the ruins of an ill-fated safari park and fight off a lethal barrage of bullets, explosives, and silly dancing. Share your thoughts, experiences and the tales behind the art.
Clearly there's more to this than meets the eye. There's clenched paw symbols everwhere, the ingame XP point system is measured in animal DNA and some kind of magical serum, there's a biological research facility in a large part of the map and the name of the Cafe is 'CRISPR Cafe'.CRISPR being the major technology used to splice RNA used in genetic research, as featured in Jurassic Park. Here's my theory.
It's a theme park turning people into animals. We can determine that, but is there more of a story to the situation. The videos on the steam store certainly make it appear so.Is there a blog or some kind of texts somewhere describing the game's backstory in detail?
I'd be very interested in reading it. Originally posted by:We actually do have a full (secret) backstory document with the entire history of Super Animal World and all that happened leading up to Super Animal Royale and the present day of the game. We use this document for everything we create, and we've been littering the island with clues of this history and easter eggs that relate to it. The most explicit storytelling happens in our YouTube series, Super Animal Royale Tonight but we do have plans to keep expanding the ways in which the story is told beyond the environmental storytelling!
We really love telling the story in ways that feel native to video games and take advantage of the strengths of this medium (particularly that each player gets to experience and discover these things for themselves to feel like they're a part of the world). There's a lot of lore hints in the SAR tonight episodes and dotted around the map.Super animals do seem to be the result of genetic experimentation between humans and animals. Whether they started as human, started as animal or were grown from tubes doesn't seem to be clear. The clenched fist is the symbol of the SASR, Super animal super resistance who are a group who seem to be trying to end the unethical forcing of super animals into the bloodsport that is the game.Speaking of which, it does seem that yes, the whole thing is televised for the good of. The humans?Anyhow, I understand there's a lot of fan theory dotted around, but I haven't found an awful lot of it. I'd be curious to read more. But yeah, start with SAR tonight on youtube, those are the official game trailers and promo reels. I've seen the trailers and found the research lab, secret base, etc. All hinting that there IS a story here and the generals off but not an actual story itself. Originally posted by:Lovin' it so far. There's one point I'm particularly curious over. What's the deal with everyone's favourite not-rat prisoner? What does he believe himself to be?
And is, or was he correct? It looks to me like he was a martyr of some kind where he was the first of something to go down so he was used as an example by SAW for something. Either that or he's being held by SASR because the mountain was used as one of their bases. Seeing the SAR logo on his prison clothes doesn't change this. I doubt SASR makes their own prison wear and just used whatever was laying around. Also, the (not) rat person could very well be the first person to get transformed into a super animal. Think about it.
Lab rats are the most commonly used animals in testing. It would make sense the scientists did the begining development research on rats as rats are so well researched and make a good control, then ounce the science was matured they moved on to more photogenic animals, foxes, tigers, cats etc. It is possible this happened against his will and the (not) rat is still in denial about what happened.
Screaming 'I'm not a rat' constantly.I could completely understand if the developers didn't want to share the storyline this early on as there's still a lot left to tell. I can't wait for that dayOne thing about some of the items in the game, more of a recommendation really.
Shouldn't there be a a SAW Scientist outfit? With all the genetic research going on and the research center.
It would also fit great with my fursona if that were to be implemented I could wear it in-game. I'd join SAW to research genetics of questionable morality on a random island in the middle of the ocean. (Isla Nublar all over again)About SASR; There's not a lot to determine anything about them right now. We don't see much about them other than they like capturing the SAR hosts. However that might change seeing as how last broadcast ended with SASR taking over the TV studio so looking forward to next episode. One thing that does not bring joy to mind is thinking about the genetic research required to make that 'fried chicken' specimen available.
Wink wink nudge nudge if a dev wants to make a major turning point in the story revolve around that seems like a good of point as ever.I expect to be updating this thread as more information releases or is found. I really like this thread, so I'll set a little theory of my own.I like to think that all the animals we see are essentially 'design children'. Scientists had essentially genetically altered the offspring instead of turning humans into animals, because in my opinion it makes more sense. But I can see the human turned animal theory well supported too, seeing that new map updates hint towards it, seeing that the super animals definitely have a higher intelligence and has an understanding of firearms, which no design child should really have.
